Obituary for David Fekay

EAST BROOKFIELD- David H. Fekay,87, went to be with the lord on September 11,2017 from congestive heart failure in Harrington Memorial Hospital.

He leaves his loving wife Joan; sons David Fekay (Kathy) of Rancho Cucumonga,C., Daniel Fekay of Saginaw,MI. and Paul Mumford (Kiomi) of Bennington,VT.; daughters Marie Lawless (Daniel) of Morris,Illinois, Donna Smith (Robert) Fontana, CA., Gale Farner of Tuttle,OK, Patty Farner of Morino Valley,CA., Talicia Smeraglino (Philip) of Fairfield, CT.,Jessica Mumford (Michael) Sturbridge,MA.; 9 siblings and many grandchildren,great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

David was born in Philadelphia,PA in a taxi cab. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the Aleutian Islands joining at the age of 15. He worked his way up from a car hauler to an international representative of the Teamsters under Jimmy Hoffa. David became heavily involved in the hospitality industry working as a general manager and master chef creating presentations for Bob Hope, Robert Goulet, John Wayne and the Queen of England on Canadian Television. David lost is legs in 2001 beginning new adventures that led him to writing his book "Mortal Angels" in 2005. Using bilateral prosthesis and hand controls in his van he lived an independent life. He loved the American Flag and displayed it in multitude on his front lawn.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 18,2017 at 12:00PM in the East Brookfield Baptist Church 262 Main St. East Brookfield. A calling hour will be held from 11-12PM in the church. Burial will follow with full military honors in Evergreen Cemetery in East Brookfield. Pillsbury Funeral Home 44 Gilbert St. North Brookfield is directing arrangements.
