Bernard "Bernie" Duhamel Sr.
BROOKFIELD — Bernard “Bernie” Duhamel Sr., 79, of Brookfield, expelled his last breath on Sept. 20, 2017 in his daughter’s home.
Bernie was born on Dec. 14, 1937 in Worcester to the late Norman and Theresa Duhamel. He proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. Dubbed the “Bird Man of Brookfield” by a friend, Bernie had a great love of animals.
He was a skilled carpenter who was never afraid of hard work. His handiwork can be seen throughout the Brookfields. Bernie was a self-taught painter and a member of the Brookfield Police Department. Bernie had a love for bowling and mastered the sport, earning him a spot in the Sporting Hall of Fame in Cambridge.
Bernie leaves his wife of 57 years, Ginger (LeBeau); two daughters, Marilyn Prue and her husband Dick, of Brookfield; Beverly Nunez and her husband, Carlos, of Westfield; a son, Bernard “Bernie” Duhamel, of Aurora, Colorado; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Sept. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Pillsbury Funeral Home 3 West Brookfield Rd. Brookfield. The funeral service for Bernie will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Brookfield Cemetery.
